Random Hacks of Kindness, Bangalore

“Hacking for Humanity!”

Random Hacks of Kindness (RHoK) aims to create a self-sustaining global community of innovators building practical open technology for a better world, and to ensure their work creates impact in society.

RHoK community has been going strong in Bangalore since December 2010. RHoK hosts 2 global hackathons every year, once in June and other in December. Recently Bangalore hosted RHoK hackathon on 11-12 June 2016 at the amazing Jaaga Startups co-working place.

Around 16 goodwill hackers came together to work on hacks centered around disabilities. The weekend gave 3 hacks.

  1. Speech navigating motorized wheelchair: for wheel-chair dependent individuals to be able to navigate using voice commands. This hack used open electronics hardware and software to design a navigation system for wheelchair.
  2. Public washroom accessibility for people with disabilities: To collect and analyze data to design accessible public toilets for all.
  3. Public transport made easier for visually challenged: Navigation and guidance system for visually challenged to locate nearest bus stop and bus to their destination. This hack used available smartphones with google maps for finding general location of bus stops and then blue-tooth beacons pin point the location of bus-stop and approaching buses.

Enable India partnered with RHoK community to present the problem statements.
